Sun Jan 19 07:45:16 UTC 2025: **Andhra Pradesh BJP Leaders Vie for State President Post**

VIJAYAWADA, January 19, 2025 – Three senior BJP leaders from Andhra Pradesh’s North Andhra districts are vying for the state party president position, as the term of current president D. Purandeswari is nearing its end. Ms. Purandeswari’s election to Parliament in 2024 has opened the position.

The contenders include Sagi Kasi Viswanatha Raju, a BJP general secretary and independent director at SAIL; P.V.N. Madhav, a former MLC; and Pakalapati Sanyasi Raju, a former state treasurer who has formally applied for the post. All three have extensive party experience but were not given MLA or MP seats in the last elections due to various political and caste considerations.

Party sources indicate that the BJP high command is considering several factors, including caste equations and individual capabilities, in selecting the new president. A source noted that the post hasn’t been held by a North Andhra leader since Kambhampati Haribabu’s tenure in undivided Andhra Pradesh, a point that might influence the decision. The final decision is expected soon.
