**TIRUPATI, Andhra Pradesh – January 19, 2025** – Companies operating within the Sri City industrial park have committed ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD) to a nature conservation initiative focused on protecting Pulicat Lake and its migratory bird habitats. The pledge was announced at a symposium held as part of the ongoing Flamingo Festival in Sullurpeta, Tirupati district.
The initiative, a response to a call from the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), aims to strengthen conservation efforts in the ecologically sensitive Pulicat zone. Sri City Managing Director Ravindra Sannareddy highlighted the importance of collective action to safeguard the lake, emphasizing the need for a sustainable future. The funds, allocated under the companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, will be directed towards BNHS-led conservation projects.
The symposium, one of several events held across the region during the Flamingo Festival, brought together policymakers, environmentalists, and researchers to discuss a range of issues impacting the Pulicat Lake ecosystem. These included biodiversity, sustainable tourism, the impact of climate change, and pollution mitigation. Experts emphasized the crucial role of collaboration between industries and local communities in ensuring the long-term health of the wetlands. A parallel symposium on biodiversity and wetland conservation was also held at Krea University.
