Sun Jan 19 06:58:03 UTC 2025: ## BCCI’s New Directives for Indian Cricketers Spark Controversy

**Mumbai, India** – New guidelines issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding player conduct and family presence on international tours have caused a stir within the Indian cricket team. The directives, implemented following India’s recent Test series loss in Australia, restrict family visits to a maximum of 14 days during tours exceeding 45 days. This reversal of a more relaxed COVID-era policy has led to tension within the team.

Captain Rohit Sharma reacted sharply to questions about the directives at a press conference, questioning the source of the information. He later privately discussed the controversial “family clause” with chief selector Ajit Agarkar, revealing widespread player concern.

Agarkar confirmed the existence of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), emphasizing that they are intended to foster team unity and are not punitive. He cited concerns about players prioritizing personal time over team bonding and practice sessions. The SOPs also encourage greater participation in domestic cricket, with Agarkar stating that players should participate whenever their schedules allow.

The chief selector clarified that many of these rules existed previously but have been formalized and emphasized. He also stressed the importance of domestic cricket for strengthening the overall cricketing structure. Several star players, including Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Ravindra Jadeja, are slated to play upcoming Ranji Trophy matches, demonstrating a commitment to the BCCI’s initiative. However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will miss due to injuries.

Rohit Sharma also addressed rumors of conflict between him and head coach Gautam Gambhir, asserting that they maintain a professional relationship characterized by mutual trust and respect on the field.
