**New Delhi, January 19, 2025** – The Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) today accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of hypocrisy regarding the caste census, citing his silence during discussions within the INDIA bloc while Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar advocated for it. JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha criticized Gandhi’s recent condemnation of Bihar’s caste survey as a “fake exercise,” pointing out that Kumar had consistently raised the issue at INDIA bloc meetings.
Jha highlighted Kumar’s efforts to conduct a scientific caste census in Bihar, emphasizing it as the first such attempt since 1931. He challenged Gandhi to specifically address any alleged inaccuracies in the Bihar survey’s data instead of dismissing it outright. The JD(U) also criticized the Congress-led Karnataka government for its failure to release the state’s own caste data, questioning Gandhi’s silence on this matter. The timing of the accusations is noteworthy, as the JD(U) was a part of the INDIA bloc before aligning with the BJP. The Bihar caste survey’s findings, released while the Congress was a part of the state government, are now being used to expand reservation quotas, a matter currently before the courts.
