**Mumbai, India** – Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” saw a modest increase in box office collections on its second day, but the film’s overall performance remains underwhelming. After a disappointing opening day of Rs 2.4 crore, Saturday’s earnings reached Rs 3.42 crore, a 36.8% increase, bringing the total to Rs 5.92 crore. While this is an improvement, it falls significantly short of projections needed for the film to be considered a success, especially considering its reported Rs 60 crore budget.
The film’s occupancy rate also showed a mixed picture, rising from a lackluster 5.95% in the morning to a peak of 21.69% during night shows. However, even at its highest, the occupancy rate remained relatively low.
The numbers pale in comparison to Ranaut’s previous films like “Judgementall Hai Kya” and “Panga,” while only marginally exceeding recent box office failures such as “Thalaivii,” “Dhaakad,” and “Tejas.” Critics have also panned the film; SCREEN’s Shubhra Gupta criticized a “preposterous” musical sequence as un-salvageable, even with Ranaut’s acting talent.
With its weak opening weekend and negative reviews, the prospects of “Emergency” achieving financial success appear bleak. The film’s future box office performance will be crucial for Ranaut, who hasn’t had a box office hit in five years.
