Sun Jan 19 06:58:16 UTC 2025: ## Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ Overtakes ‘Aazaad’ at Box Office on Day 2
**Mumbai, India** – Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” surpassed its box office competitor, “Aazaad,” on its second day of release. While both films had a modest opening, “Emergency” saw a significant increase in collections, earning an estimated ₹3.5 crore (approximately $425,000 USD) on day two, bringing its two-day total to ₹6 crore (approximately $725,000 USD). This is in contrast to “Aazaad,” the debut film of Aman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, which remained stagnant at ₹1.5 crore per day, accumulating a total of ₹3 crore (approximately $365,000 USD) over the same period.
“Emergency,” a biographical drama depicting the 1975 Indian Emergency under Indira Gandhi’s rule, stars Ranaut in the titular role. The film also features a stellar supporting cast, including Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as a young Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Despite the positive buzz surrounding the film, its ₹6 crore two-day total is a far cry from its reported ₹60 crore budget.
“Aazaad,” while marking the Bollywood debut of two prominent star kids, failed to garner significant traction at the box office. The film’s performance will be closely monitored to determine its overall success.
