**New Delhi** – Following India’s disappointing 1-3 loss to Australia in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented a strict 10-point code of conduct for national team players. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar defended the new rules, emphasizing the need for improved team bonding and discipline.
Agarkar clarified that the guidelines, which include restrictions on personal staff accompanying players on tours, limitations on personal shoots during series, and mandatory participation in domestic matches, are not punitive measures. “It’s not a school, it’s not a punishment,” he stated during a press conference. “When you’re playing for the national team, you follow the rules. These are mature individuals; they know how to handle themselves.”
He explained that the BCCI observed a need for stronger team cohesion in recent months, prompting the review and subsequent implementation of the new regulations. While some rules existed previously, Agarkar confirmed that they have been formalized and emphasized to ensure a more unified team environment. The measures, he added, are common practice within high-performance sporting teams worldwide.
The stricter regulations aim to foster a more professional atmosphere and emphasize national team unity. The BCCI’s policy document, obtained by India Today, reveals a ban on players bringing personal staff like cooks, hairdressers, and security guards on tour, alongside a mandate for using team transport. This move is intended to promote team spirit and focus.
