Sun Jan 19 06:30:00 UTC 2025: ## IDF Announces Recovery of Oren Shaul’s Body, Ceasefire Delayed

**JERUSALEM** – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced this morning the recovery of the body of soldier Oren Shaul, who was killed and abducted by Hamas in the 2014 Operation Protective Edge. IDF Spokesperson Brigadier General Daniel Hagri confirmed the news, stating that Shaul’s remains were recovered in a special operation carried out overnight by various IDF units, including Shayetet 13 (Naval Commando Unit), and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency). The body was identified at the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute.

The operation, Hagri explained, was the culmination of a decade-long intelligence effort, intensified during recent hostilities. The IDF also confirmed notifying Shaul’s family, as well as the family of Hadar Goldin, another soldier whose body was abducted in 2014. Efforts continue to recover Goldin’s remains, Hagri added.

The announcement comes amidst a delayed ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza. While a ceasefire was scheduled to begin at 8:30 AM, General Hagri stated it would not take effect until Hamas fully complies with the agreement’s terms. He specifically highlighted that the names of Israeli hostages held by Hamas have not yet been provided. The IDF continues its offensive operations in Gaza due to this non-compliance, Hagri emphasized, adding that any violation of the agreement would have serious consequences.
