Sat Jan 18 05:39:29 UTC 2025: ## UN Unveils Action Plan to Combat Global Surge in Antisemitism

**NEW YORK, January 18, 2025** – The United Nations launched a comprehensive action plan on Friday to counter the alarming rise in antisemitism worldwide. The plan, developed by the UN Alliance of Civilisations, aims to strengthen internal UN efforts and encourage global cooperation to combat hate crimes and discrimination against Jewish people.

The initiative comes in response to a significant increase in antisemitic incidents, both online and offline, exacerbated by the October 2023 Hamas attacks in Israel. Miguel Moratinos, head of the UN Alliance of Civilisations, expressed concern that existing measures have proven insufficient to curb the problem. The plan calls for increased monitoring, training for UN personnel on antisemitism and Holocaust denial, and the establishment of a working group to assess the impact of antisemitism-combating policies.

The UN urges governments and organizations to adopt “zero tolerance” policies, swiftly condemn antisemitic acts, and enhance education about the Holocaust and antisemitism. While acknowledging past criticisms of the UN’s own record on antisemitism, the plan emphasizes a renewed commitment to its human rights mandate.

US Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism Deborah Lipstadt and US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield stressed the importance of translating the plan into tangible action. They emphasized the need for the UN to demonstrate its full commitment to combating antisemitism and achieving concrete progress. The plan’s success hinges on the cooperation and commitment of member states and organizations worldwide.
