Fri Jan 17 19:29:51 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Congress Leader Condemns Adani Highway Contract

**Chennai, January 18, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president, K. Selvaperunthagai, has strongly criticized the awarding of a ₹1,692 crore contract to Adani Road Transport for the construction of a 124 km four-lane highway in Tamil Nadu. Selvaperunthagai alleges that the contract, part of the Tiruchi–Tuvarankurichi-Madurai National Highway project, is a blatant example of favoritism towards the Adani Group by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration.

The TNCC president points to the Hindenburg Research report from January 2023, which revealed alleged financial irregularities within the Adani Group, leading to a significant drop in the company’s stock value. Despite these allegations and a Supreme Court order for investigation by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Selvaperunthagai claims that the Modi government has shielded Adani from scrutiny and allowed the group’s business interests to expand rapidly across various sectors.

Selvaperunthagai accused the government of prioritizing industrialists over the poor and underprivileged, highlighting the alleged close relationship between the BJP and the Adani Group as a conflict of interest. He further stated that the lack of investigation into the allegations raises serious questions about transparency and accountability. The TNCC leader demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.
