Fri Jan 17 20:19:30 UTC 2025: ## Kochi Launches Nationwide First Road Safety Initiative
**KOCHI, January 18, 2025** – Kochi Corporation has launched a pioneering road safety initiative, aiming to make the city completely traffic-rule literate. This is believed to be the first such comprehensive program in India.
The initiative, launched Friday at the Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, will begin with designating the area between Mangalavanam and Durbar Hall as a silent zone. This will be achieved in collaboration with the Motor Vehicle, police, and public works departments, as well as Cochin Smart Mission Limited.
Mayor M. Anilkumar stated the program, implemented with the Motor Vehicles department and technical support from SCMS Institute for Road Safety, will expand into a six-month long awareness campaign. Deputy Transport Commissioner Anoop Varkey pledged full support, praising the selection of GGHSS as the launch site.
Approximately 200 students participated in the inaugural road safety awareness class and vehicle technical training session. P.R. Ranish, chairperson of the Kochi Corporation development standing committee, presided over the event.
