Sat Jan 18 10:04:54 UTC 2025: **Modi Distributes 6.5 Million Property Cards Under Svamitva Scheme**

**New Delhi, January 18, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today distributed approximately 6.5 million property cards under the Svamitva scheme, a move aimed at boosting economic activity and poverty alleviation. The cards, providing legal property rights, were distributed to beneficiaries across 10 states (Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh) and two Union Territories (Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh), covering over 50,000 villages.

This initiative brings the total number of villagers with Svamitva property cards to 22.4 million. PM Modi highlighted the global significance of property rights, citing a UN study emphasizing their importance in poverty reduction. He stated that the scheme addresses the issue of “dead capital” – the unrealized economic potential of village properties lacking legal documentation – which previously hindered access to loans and government benefits.

The Prime Minister stressed that the Svamitva scheme particularly benefits Dalits, backward classes, and tribal communities, who were disproportionately affected by the lack of property rights. He noted that many card recipients have already used their newfound legal standing to secure loans and start businesses. The scheme, alongside Bhu-Adhaar, is expected to serve as a cornerstone for rural development. The distribution involved both virtual interaction with beneficiaries and physical ceremonies across over 230 districts, with participation from several chief ministers and Union ministers.
