Sat Jan 18 15:34:19 UTC 2025: ## Bumrah Included in India’s Champions Trophy Squad, Fitness Pending

**Mumbai, India** – Jasprit Bumrah has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, starting February 19th, but his participation hinges on his recovery from a back injury. The star pacer was forced to withdraw from the second innings of the recent Sydney Test due to spasms, sparking concerns about his availability.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar expressed cautious optimism, stating that Bumrah was advised to rest for five weeks and that the BCCI medical team would provide an update. Agarkar hopes Bumrah will be fit after the first week of February.

The squad also features Shubman Gill as vice-captain for the England ODI series and the Champions Trophy. The three-match ODI series against England, beginning February 6th, will see the inclusion of seam-bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana. Mohammed Siraj has been omitted, with Arshdeep Singh preferred as the left-arm fast bowler. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, returning from injury, also earned spots.

Due to government restrictions, India’s Champions Trophy matches will be played in Dubai, not Pakistan. India, a two-time Champions Trophy winner, begins its campaign against Bangladesh on February 20th, followed by matches against Pakistan (February 23rd) and New Zealand (March 2nd).

**India Squad:** Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill (vc), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana (England ODIs only).
