PATNA, INDIA (January 18, 2025) – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sharply criticized the Bihar government’s caste survey as a deceptive exercise, reiterating his party’s demand for a nationwide caste census. Speaking at the ‘Karyakarta Sammelan’ and ‘Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan’ in Patna today, Gandhi asserted that a comprehensive census is crucial for effective development planning, particularly for marginalized communities.
He accused the BJP and RSS of undermining the Constitution and neglecting Dalits, minorities, and other marginalized groups, comprising approximately 90% of the population. Gandhi further criticized RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement on “true independence,” alleging it contradicts the Constitution.
Gandhi stated that the purpose of a caste census extends beyond mere headcounts, aiming to assess the participation of OBCs, Dalits, and other communities in the nation’s wealth and various sectors. He also called for an increase in the reservation cap for SCs, STs, and OBCs, arguing that the current 50% limit is insufficient. He characterized the current political climate as a struggle between those upholding the Constitution and those spreading hatred.
