Sat Jan 18 10:20:00 UTC 2025: ## NEC Employee Arrested for Indecent Act Against Job Applicant

**Tokyo, Japan –** NEC Corporation announced on January 14th the arrest of one of its employees on January 8th for committing an indecent act against a student participating in the company’s recruitment process. The company issued a public apology, stating the incident was deeply regrettable and expressing remorse to the victim and all involved parties. NEC is conducting a full investigation and will take strict disciplinary action against the employee.

This incident follows a similar case in 2019 involving an employee from major construction firm Obayashi Corporation. The increased scrutiny on corporate hiring practices has prompted NEC to revise its recruitment guidelines to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for job applicants.

In response, NEC has established a new harassment consultation hotline specifically for issues related to its recruitment activities. The company stressed that employee abuse of their position to harass job applicants is unacceptable and reaffirmed its commitment to strictly enforcing its revised guidelines to prevent future incidents.

Other companies have also implemented stricter measures. Sumitomo Corporation, following a 2019 arrest of an employee on suspicion of quasi-compulsory indecent assault against a student, has created and publicly released detailed guidelines for alumni/OB/OG visits, including a complete ban on meals and alcohol with job applicants. All in-person visits are limited to weekdays between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, primarily on company premises, with similar restrictions placed on online interactions.
