Sat Jan 18 07:00:00 UTC 2025: **Seoul, South Korea –** The League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) is launching its first-ever cup tournament, the LCK Cup, starting this Wednesday at the LCK Arena in Seoul. This innovative tournament introduces the “Fearless Draft” rule, previously used in the Challengers League, which prevents teams from selecting champions already picked by their opponent in subsequent games. This dynamic rule, impacting up to 20 champions in a best-of-three and 50 in a best-of-five, promises a more unpredictable and exciting viewing experience.
The tournament will feature a group stage, with powerhouses Hanwha Life Esports and Gen.G leading their respective groups. A unique playoff qualification system allows for collaboration between usually competing teams, with the top three teams from the winning group advancing directly to the playoffs. The remaining teams will compete in play-ins for a playoff spot.
While the LCK Cup results won’t affect the 2025 season standings, the winning team will represent the LCK in Riot Games’ inaugural First Stand Tournament later this year. The group stage runs until February 2nd, followed by play-ins from February 7th to 9th, and playoffs from February 12th to 23rd. Tickets are available via Interpark Ticket. The event will be live-streamed on various online platforms.
