Fri Jan 17 23:35:00 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Delays Funding for Flagship Schemes

**Hyderabad, January 18, 2025** – The Telangana State government is delaying the mobilization of funds for four major flagship schemes slated for launch on Republic Day, January 26th. These schemes – Rythu Bharosa (farmer support), Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa, new ration cards, and Indirama Illu (housing) – are projected to cost an additional ₹45,000 crore.

To address the financial burden, the government has revised its borrowing schedule for the current financial year’s final quarter. It plans to raise ₹30,000 crore through State Government Securities (SGS) auctions conducted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). While ₹3,000 crore was raised in early January, the state skipped an auction on January 14th and will not participate in the January 21st auction.

Finance department officials remain tight-lipped about the revised schedule, offering only vague explanations. They denied any new borrowing restrictions imposed by the Union Finance Ministry.

The state’s financial constraints are evident. In November, Telangana utilized various RBI financial instruments, including the special drawing facility, Ways and Means Advances, and overdrafts, totaling over ₹7,000 crore. The government’s cautious approach to borrowing suggests ongoing fiscal challenges.
