Sat Jan 18 10:12:28 UTC 2025: **Chennai Corporation Disposes of Over 34,000 Tonnes of Waste in Six Days**
**CHENNAI, January 18, 2025** – The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) announced today that it successfully collected and disposed of 34,748 tonnes of solid waste between January 11 and 16, 2025. Daily waste collection ranged from 5,424 to 6,233 tonnes across all 15 zones. The corporation’s sanitation workers conducted door-to-door collection of both biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.
A special drive from January 11 to 13 also yielded 87.32 tonnes of reusable materials, including old clothes (31.79 tonnes), tyres and tubes (18.80 tonnes), plastic items (24.14 tonnes), and other miscellaneous materials (12.31 tonnes). The GCC’s efficient waste management efforts continue to address the city’s waste disposal needs.
