**New Delhi, January 18, 2025** – The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, running from January 17th to 22nd, is showcasing a strong push towards electric vehicles (EVs). Day one saw major announcements from leading automakers, solidifying the EV sector’s prominence in India’s automotive future.

Maruti Suzuki unveiled its first EV, the e-Vitara, aiming to become India’s top EV producer within a year. Similarly, Hyundai Motor India showcased its Creta Electric, entering the competitive EV market alongside existing models like the MG ZS EV and Mahindra XUV 400. Other manufacturers, including Suzuki Motorcycle India (with its e-ACCESS scooter and GIXXER SF 250 Flex Fuel motorcycle) and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, also presented their latest electric two-wheelers.

Vietnam’s VinFast Auto made its Indian debut, announcing plans to launch its VF 7 and VF 6 electric SUVs later this year. The company is investing $500 million in a Tamil Nadu manufacturing plant, scheduled for completion in the second half of 2025. VinFast is also seeking government incentives under India’s new EV policy and plans to export EVs produced in India to the Middle East and Africa.

Ashok Leyland disrupted the mini-truck segment with the launch of its Saathi light commercial vehicle, priced at ₹6.5 lakh, aiming for a 20% market share in five years. Other notable launches included BMW India’s India-built, all-electric BMW X1 long wheelbase, boasting a range of up to 531 km. Clean Electric unveiled a 15-minute rapid charging system for light electric vehicles, addressing a key challenge in EV adoption.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the Expo’s inauguration, highlighted the potential for eightfold growth in India’s EV numbers by the end of the decade, encouraging further investment in the sector. He emphasized India’s commitment to green technology and its position as a prime investment destination for the mobility sector. The Expo also featured several global startups and EV manufacturers making their Indian debut, including Ather Energy and Eka Mobility in the electric two-wheeler segment. The event is expected to continue its focus on EVs and future mobility solutions throughout the week.
