**New Delhi** – The glittering world of Auto Expo 2025 hides a less glamorous reality for the hundreds of young women working as models at the event. These women, many of whom are students supplementing their income, earn between ₹15,000 and ₹20,000 per day, potentially earning over ₹100,000 during the six-day show. However, their job entails long hours, standing and smiling for extended periods, often amidst large crowds.
According to interviews conducted by HT Auto, the models’ responsibilities range from posing next to vehicles to answering basic visitor inquiries. While some brands employ dedicated staff for technical questions, the models are expected to possess a general understanding of the products they represent. Many reported receiving frequent selfie requests, some even facing requests for phone numbers, though they were able to politely decline such advances. Security personnel are present to ensure safety and comfort.
The work, often described as “standing and smiling,” is physically demanding, with breaks only provided after each hour of work. The environment can be claustrophobic, especially on busy days. Despite the challenges, the high daily wages make the job attractive, particularly for those pursuing further education or needing supplemental income. Many models expressed that the presence of security and regular breaks mitigated some of the challenges.
While most models are Indian, the event also employs women from countries including Russia, Hungary, and Brazil. The significant gender imbalance in the visible workforce—with a clear preference for female models—is a notable observation.
The recruitment process involves agencies contracted by various brands to provide staffing for the expo. The models’ experiences, while lucrative, highlight the demanding nature of the role and the inherent trade-off between high earnings and long hours in a high-pressure environment.
