Sat Jan 18 10:57:41 UTC 2025: ## India Declares Itself the Future of Global Mobility at Landmark Expo
**New Delhi –** Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 today, proclaiming India as the future of the global mobility sector. The five-day expo, showcasing over 100 new products and technologies across three Delhi-NCR venues, is the country’s largest automotive event.
Modi highlighted India’s impressive growth, citing 250 million annual vehicle sales, $36 billion in foreign direct investment over the past four years, and the creation of over 150,000 jobs through initiatives like “Make in India” and performance-linked incentive (PLI) schemes. He emphasized the sector’s nearly 12% growth last year, exceeding the population of many countries in annual car sales alone.
The Prime Minister attributed this success to a burgeoning neo-middle class, with 250 million Indians escaping poverty in the last decade, fueling increased vehicle purchases. He also underscored the rapid expansion of India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, projecting an eightfold increase in sales by the end of the decade from 1.68 million in 2024 to potentially over 13 million.
Modi urged manufacturers to leverage the vehicle scrappage policy to accelerate the transition to eco-friendly vehicles. He praised industry pioneers like Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki for their contributions to the sector. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal further emphasized India’s global leadership in three-wheeler and tractor manufacturing, as well as its position as the world’s largest two-wheeler market.
With India currently the world’s fifth-largest economy and third-largest passenger vehicle market, Modi projected further expansion as the nation climbs into the top three global economies, driven by a young population, urbanization, and infrastructure development. The expo underscores India’s ambition to be a global leader in the evolving mobility landscape.
