Wed Jan 15 15:18:12 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Creates Hundreds of Health Posts to Boost Family Health Centres
**Thiruvananthapuram, January 15, 2025** – The Kerala government announced the creation of 570 new posts within the Health department to fully operationalize its network of Family Health Centres (FHCs). This initiative, despite the state’s current financial constraints, underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening its healthcare infrastructure.
The newly created positions include 35 Assistant Surgeons, 150 Nursing Officers Grade II, 250 Pharmacists Grade II, and 135 Lab Technicians Grade II. Further critical posts will be created in a subsequent phase, with the Director of Health Services tasked with determining district-specific needs (excluding Assistant Surgeon positions).
This expansion builds upon the Aardram Mission, which has already transformed 5,415 primary health centres into Health and Wellness Centres, and is currently converting 885 primary health centres into FHCs. Each FHC will offer outpatient services from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is equipped with improved amenities including waiting rooms, registration counters, ramps for accessibility, and examination rooms.
Health Minister Veena George highlighted the significant improvements in service delivery expected once the FHCs are fully functional. She emphasized the government’s dedication to providing comprehensive primary care, noting that 133 FHCs have already received National Quality Accreditation Standards (NQAS) certification. The initiative aims to provide improved healthcare access and quality at the grassroots level.
