Wed Jan 15 15:33:12 UTC 2025: ## BJP Candidate Under Investigation for Alleged Election Code Violation

**New Delhi, January 15, 2025** – Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate for the New Delhi Assembly seat, is under investigation for a potential violation of the Model Code of Conduct. A complaint alleges that Mr. Verma distributed shoes to voters at a Valmiki temple, a practice prohibited under Section 123 of the Representation of People Act, 1951.

The returning officer for the New Delhi constituency ordered the police to investigate following a complaint filed by advocate Rajnish Bhaskar, who provided video evidence purportedly showing the distribution of footwear. A non-cognizable report (NCR) has been filed, and investigations are underway.

Mr. Verma denies the accusations, claiming he merely placed shoes on the feet of sanitation workers at the temple as a gesture of respect. His aide further stated that no shoes were distributed, only offered as a mark of respect to a select few.

This investigation follows earlier corruption allegations levelled against Mr. Verma by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and party members, who accuse him of attempting to influence voters through illicit means. The incident adds to the ongoing tension in the lead-up to the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025.
