Wed Jan 15 17:05:10 UTC 2025: ## Centre Agrees to Autonomy for Proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory
**Guwahati, January 16, 2025** – The Indian government has agreed in principle to grant executive, legislative, and financial autonomy to the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT), according to the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO). The FNT, encompassing six eastern districts of Nagaland, has been a key demand of the ENPO, representing seven Naga tribes.
Following a meeting with a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) delegation on Wednesday, ENPO president A. Chingmak Chang announced the Centre’s acceptance of the autonomy request. While some minor issues remain to be resolved in future meetings, the MHA also agreed to establish a Central armed force regiment in the region to address unemployment and to strengthen and modernize the Village Guards.
The demand for the FNT arose from concerns of alleged neglect by the Nagaland state government of the six eastern districts – Kiphire, Longleng, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, and Tuensang. This led to boycotts of major events, including the Hornbill Festival and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the region. The ENPO had previously stated it would accept nothing less than full autonomy for the FNT.
