**Kolkata, January 14, 2025** – A Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was killed and two others injured in a shooting in Malda district, West Bengal, on Tuesday. The incident, the second killing of a TMC activist in the district this month, occurred during the inauguration of a road in the Kaliaganj area. Ataul Haque, a TMC worker, died at the scene, while Bakul Sheikh and Esaruddin Sheikh sustained critical injuries.

Police have arrested seven individuals in connection with the previous killing of TMC councillor Dulal Sarkar earlier this month, alleging a contract killing for ₹50 lakh. However, Sujapur MLA Md Abdul Gani criticized the police’s inaction and the rise in violence, which he attributes to factional infighting within the TMC over financial gains. He claimed some party members are earning significant sums while others are not.

While the Malda district president denied the involvement of a particular TMC worker, Zakir Sheikh, in Tuesday’s shooting, supporters of the deceased claim he was implicated. The investigation continues.
