**Chennai, January 15, 2025** – A private helicopter joyride service operating in Kovalam, near Chennai, has been shut down following complaints about its operation without the necessary permits. Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Thiruporur MLA S.S. Balaji initiated the closure, filing a complaint with the Chengalpattu district Collector. The service was subsequently sealed.

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss welcomed the ban, claiming it as a victory for his party. He highlighted his year-long campaign against the service, citing environmental concerns and urging the government to revoke its permission. Mr. Ramadoss had previously written to the Environment Department secretary and the Chengalpattu District Collector, and issued a public statement in September calling for the service’s closure and the designation of the East Coast Road (ECR) as a protected bird habitat.

However, MLA Balaji disputed Mr. Ramadoss’s claim of sole responsibility for the ban, alleging that the PMK leader was attempting to take undue credit.
