Wed Jan 15 17:30:00 UTC 2025: **Mariners Acquire Utility Infielder Miles Mastrobuoni from Cubs**
SEATTLE, WA – January 14, 2025 – The Seattle Mariners announced today the acquisition of infielder/outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Mariners designated catcher Nick Raposo for assignment.
Mastrobuoni, 29, brings defensive versatility to Seattle, having played all three infield positions to the left of first base, as well as the outfield corners. While his major league batting average sits at a modest .219 over the past three seasons, he boasts a strong minor league record, including a .278/.371/.434 slash line and a 114 wRC+ in 982 Triple-A plate appearances. He also has a history of stealing bases. The Mariners, who lost several infielders this offseason, see Mastrobuoni as a valuable addition to their depth. He has one option year remaining.
Raposo, 27, was claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays last month. He has yet to make his major league debut. The Mariners now have a week to trade Raposo or place him on waivers again.
