**Belagavi, Karnataka –** Karnataka Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar was involved in a car accident on Tuesday morning near Kittur in Belagavi district. The accident occurred on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway when the driver swerved to avoid a stray dog, causing the car to hit a roadside tree.

Minister Hebbalkar and her brother, MLC Channaraj Hattiholi, sustained minor injuries. Hebbalkar was admitted to a private hospital for observation, while Hattiholi was treated as an outpatient. A police investigation is underway, and a case has been registered.

Initial reports indicate that Hebbalkar suffered minor injuries to her face and back, while Hattiholi sustained a minor head injury. Medical evaluations, including CT scans and MRIs, revealed minor injuries to Hebbalkar’s spine (L1 and L4). Doctors have advised her to rest for four weeks. Hattiholi is expected to recover within a week.

The minister and her brother had traveled from Bengaluru to Belagavi on Monday night following a Congress legislative party meeting. Family sources stated that Hebbalkar opted to drive instead of flying due to the unavailability of nighttime flights.

Home Minister G Parameshwar contacted Hebbalkar’s son to inquire about her well-being and instructed officers to provide the minister with the best possible care.
