Wed Jan 15 14:40:17 UTC 2025: ## New Hosur Airport in Tamil Nadu Moves Forward with Site Selection

**Chennai, January 15, 2025** – The development of a new airport in Hosur, Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, is progressing, with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) currently conducting a detailed study of two shortlisted sites. The proposed airport, announced by the Tamil Nadu government in June 2024, will span over 2,000 acres and feature two runways. Its strategic location near Bengaluru aims to provide convenient air travel for residents of the southern parts of the city.

Five initial sites were evaluated last September by AAI and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO). Following a feasibility study, two locations have been selected for further investigation. One site is located 1.5 km from the Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited (TAAL) private airstrip, while the other is situated 15.5 km away near Ulagam. AAI expects to complete its detailed site analysis within two months.

The next steps involve securing necessary permissions from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and the Ministry of Defence, followed by land acquisition. While discussions have taken place with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), Tamil Nadu’s decision to proceed independently is driven by a central government agreement restricting the construction of international airports within a 150 km radius of existing ones until 2033. The Hosur airport is currently planned as a domestic facility.
