NELLORE, Andhra Pradesh – The Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to rebuild and restore several ancient temples across the state, starting with Nellore district. State Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana inspected the Dharmaraja and Shiva temples in Nawabpet on Tuesday, announcing the restoration as part of a broader state initiative.
Minister Reddy stated that the government will prioritize the reconstruction of the Shiva temple, a project that has faced delays in the past. The restoration will incorporate suggestions from religious experts, temple authorities, and historical studies. He also addressed concerns regarding 24 families residing on temple lands, assuring them of new housing in land allocated by the District Collector following court orders.
Minister Narayana emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing ancient temples, promising the necessary funds for the reconstruction projects and assuring timely completion. He further clarified that families near the Dharmaraja temple will only be relocated after resolving the ongoing court dispute regarding land encroachment. The ministers also pledged improvements to a local cemetery in Bodigadithota, including the construction of a Shiva idol at its entrance. The announcement marks a significant step in the state’s efforts to preserve its historical and religious heritage.
