**GEORGE TOWN, Penang** – France has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Southeast Asia, particularly under Malaysia’s leadership of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year. French Ambassador to Malaysia, Axel Cruau, highlighted Malaysia’s crucial role in driving ASEAN initiatives forward.
Speaking at a media dialogue session on Tuesday, Cruau emphasized France’s high regard for ASEAN’s centrality and Malaysia’s vital contribution, particularly in promoting security, peace, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. He expressed optimism for significant progress under Malaysia’s chairmanship, anticipating numerous new initiatives focused on inclusivity and sustainability.
Cruau also revealed France’s eagerness to deepen dialogue with Malaysia to explore avenues of support for ASEAN’s goals, encompassing areas such as energy and development. He pointed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s upcoming trip to Brussels, expressing hope for positive outcomes from the visit.
