**Vellore, January 16, 2025** – A two-day national workshop on improving the quality and safety of blood transfusion services commenced in Vellore today. The event, jointly organized by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the World Health Organization (WHO) India, and Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore, aims to strengthen external quality assessment (EQA) programs for blood centers across India.
The workshop brings together representatives from all Indian states and union territories, national experts, and policymakers. The goal is to enhance the capacity of blood centers to maintain consistent quality and patient safety nationwide. A key outcome will be the release of operational guidelines for EQA programs, providing a comprehensive resource for effective participation.
Professor Atul Goel of the Directorate General of Health Services will serve as the chief guest. Other prominent attendees include representatives from the National Blood Transfusion Council and the WHO.
The initiative underscores India’s commitment to patient safety, equitable access to safe blood, and alignment with global healthcare standards. By strengthening quality management systems through EQA participation, the workshop seeks to empower blood centers across the country.
