**Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, January 15, 2025** – Visakhapatnam played host to the 9th Boccia National Championship, marking the city’s first-ever national-level parasports championship. Over 100 para-athletes from 21 states across India competed in the event, held at the Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone (AMTZ). The championship showcased the skill and determination of athletes with disabilities such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, competing in individual and doubles matches. Winners will go on to represent India in international competitions.

The championship highlighted the transformative power of boccia, a precision ball sport designed for individuals with severe physical disabilities. One participant, 21-year-old Ravinder Kumar from Rajasthan, shared his inspiring journey, explaining how boccia transformed his life after being bedridden for years. He won a gold medal at the AMTZ championship. Another participant emphasized the unique benefits of boccia, providing much-needed physical and mental stimulation for individuals with limited physical activity options.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder-CEO of AMTZ, lauded the championship’s success, emphasizing AMTZ’s commitment to empowering para-athletes and promoting inclusion. AMTZ’s support extends beyond boccia; a wheelchair basketball championship is planned for next month at the Medtech Zone. The event underscores AMTZ’s dedication not only to healthcare but also to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
