**Yadgir, Karnataka, January 16, 2025** – The annual Mailaralingeshwar temple fair in Mailapur, Yadgir district, concluded with the Animal Husbandry Department raising ₹18.83 lakh through the auction of 763 sheep and goats seized during the event. The animals were confiscated following a district administration ban on throwing live animals onto the temple idol’s palanquin during its traditional holy dip.
Seven bidders collectively purchased the animals, contributing to the significant revenue generated. Despite the ban, a video surfaced online showing a devotee disregarding the rule. The fair, which attracted lakhs of devotees from across Karnataka and neighbouring states, ran from January 12th to 18th and proceeded peacefully thanks to extensive security measures implemented by the Home Department. Other departments provided support services, including transport, healthcare, and sanitation facilities for the large crowds. The temple’s annual ceremony included the traditional breaking of an iron chain and the showering of the palanquin with yellow powder.
