**Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, January 14, 2025** – Over 5,000 people from 69 different communities celebrated Pongal together in Meyvalichalai village, showcasing remarkable unity and transcending caste, religious, and social barriers. The festival, held at the Ponnurang Church, marked the 124th year of this unique tradition.
The residents of Meyvalichalai, known as Anandars and Brahma Kula members, celebrated the event, called “Brahma Prakash Meyvalichalai Andavargalin Pongal.” This annual Pongal celebration brings together people from diverse backgrounds who, despite living in different areas throughout the year, return to their village to participate in the collective harvest festival.
Former Minister and Viralimalai MLA Vijayabhaskar also attended the celebration with his family, adding to the festive atmosphere. Participants, dressed in traditional attire, prepared and shared Pongal, a sweet rice dish, symbolizing community and prosperity.
Speaking about the event, Gunasekaran, a participant, stated, “Thousands of people from various regions have come together, ignoring caste and religious differences, to celebrate Pongal. All the Pongal prepared is shared as prasad (sacred offering) among everyone.”
