Tue Jan 14 02:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Las Vegas Man Arrested in NBA Betting Scheme Tied to Former Raptor

**Las Vegas, NV –** A Las Vegas man, Shane Hennen (39), has been arrested and charged in connection with an illegal sports betting scheme involving former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter, who was recently banned from the NBA for manipulating his performance. Hennen was apprehended Sunday at Harry Reid International Airport while attempting to board a one-way flight to Colombia. Authorities seized multiple cell phones and nearly $10,000 in cash.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, Hennen allegedly received inside information from conspirators linked to Porter. This information, detailing Porter’s planned underperformance in several games, was then distributed to other gamblers, and Hennen placed bets through proxies.

The complaint details specific instances where Hennen received texts revealing Porter’s intention to limit his playing time and statistical output due to a fabricated eye injury. One message instructed Hennen to bet “under” on Porter’s performance, with one wager totaling $29,382 potentially paying out over $100,000. After one successful bet, Hennen allegedly texted a co-conspirator, “We got lucky.”

While Porter is not named in Hennen’s complaint, the details align with Porter’s own guilty plea to a federal conspiracy charge in July. Porter admitted to manipulating his performance to alleviate significant gambling debts. Four other men have also been charged in the scheme.

Hennen appeared in federal court on Monday and was released. His attorney has yet to comment. Federal authorities argued for his detention, citing his extensive gambling history, prior criminal record (including aggravated assault and drug distribution), and evidence suggesting involvement in millions of dollars in illicit financial transactions and fraudulent sports wagers. The investigation continues.
