**Bengaluru, January 14, 2025** – Dr. V. Narayanan, a distinguished scientist with four decades of experience at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has been appointed as the new chairman, the agency announced yesterday. He succeeds S. Somanath and also assumes the roles of Secretary, Department of Space, and Chairman, Space Commission.

Dr. Narayanan, a graduate of IIT Kharagpur with expertise in cryogenic engineering and aerospace, previously served as the Director of ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) since January 2018. His contributions to ISRO span numerous landmark missions. He played a key role in overcoming technological hurdles to develop India’s indigenous cryogenic technology, crucial for the GSLV Mk-II and LVM3 launch vehicles.
