Mon Jan 13 04:48:20 UTC 2025: ## Thousands Protest in Belgrade Demanding Justice for Train Station Collapse

**BELGRADE, SERBIA** – Thousands of Serbians took to the streets of Belgrade on Sunday, January 12, 2025, to protest government corruption and demand accountability for the deaths of 15 people in a train station roof collapse in Novi Sad two months prior. The demonstrations, which have been ongoing since the November 1st tragedy, were marked by whistles, protest badges featuring a bloody hand, and a large turnout in the capital city.

The protests, initially sparked by students who have blockaded universities, focus on allegations of corruption and inadequate oversight in the recently completed restoration work at Novi Sad train station. While over a dozen individuals, including former Transport Minister Goran Vesic, have been charged, protesters are demanding greater transparency regarding the investigation and the contracts awarded to Chinese, French, and Hungarian companies for the station’s renovation. The demonstrations highlight widespread public anger and distrust in the government’s handling of the incident.
