Tue Jan 14 00:40:00 UTC 2025: **Rams Relocate Playoff Game to Arizona Amid Devastating California Wildfires**

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Los Angeles Rams’ NFC Wild Card playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings, originally scheduled for SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, has been moved to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, due to the raging wildfires currently engulfing Los Angeles County. The decision, announced by the NFL on Thursday, comes after days of escalating fire danger and evacuation orders affecting players, coaches, and staff.

The unprecedented move, only the second of its kind in NFL playoff history (excluding Super Bowls), prioritizes the safety of the community and first responders. Rams team president Kevin Demoff explained that maintaining sufficient public safety personnel for the game was impossible given the ongoing crisis. He emphasized that diverting resources to SoFi Stadium would be irresponsible given the scale of the disaster, which has already destroyed over 12,300 structures.

Several Rams players, including offensive tackle Rob Havenstein and coach Sean McVay, were personally impacted by the fires, with their families forced to evacuate. Havenstein described a harrowing experience attempting to reach his family amidst communication outages and widespread power failures. McVay, however, found solace knowing his family was safe.

The team initially hoped to replicate their 2018 experience, where they played a Monday Night Football game post-Woolsey fire, using the event as a community healing experience. However, the rapidly deteriorating situation forced a change of plans. The Rams, in consultation with local authorities and the NFL, determined relocation was necessary.

The Cardinals organization has been instrumental in facilitating the move, providing logistical support, including the use of planes and their practice facilities. The Rams are striving to maintain a “home game” feel, organizing transportation for season ticket holders and incorporating fundraising efforts to support the LAFD Foundation and the American Red Cross. The Kroenke family, owners of the Rams, donated $1 million, matched by the Chargers, Texans, Vikings, and the NFL Foundation.

While acknowledging the extraordinary circumstances, the Rams remain focused on the game. Players expressed gratitude for the chance to escape the immediate crisis and focus on the playoff challenge. Despite the change in location, the team is determined to represent Los Angeles, wearing LAFD hats and shirts in solidarity with first responders. The game is set for Monday night on ESPN/ABC.
