Mon Jan 13 14:02:35 UTC 2025: ## Indore Temple Wedding Sparks Outrage, Officials Take Action

**Indore, Madhya Pradesh:** A wedding held at the historic 200-year-old Gopal Mandir temple in Indore has ignited a controversy, leading to a high-level investigation and disciplinary action against temple officials. The wedding, which took place Sunday, allegedly caused significant disruption to devotees and local traffic.

Photographs and a receipt circulating on social media show the event involved elaborate decorations, Vedic rituals, and a large feast. The receipt indicates a payment of Rs 25,551 was made to the temple management for the wedding. This has raised serious questions about how permission was granted for such an event at the heritage site, renovated under the Smart City project at a cost of Rs 13 crore.

In response to the public outcry, Indore Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh has taken swift action. The temple manager has been immediately dismissed, and a revenue department official responsible for overseeing such temples has been relieved of their duties. An additional district magistrate will lead an investigation into the incident, and a high-level committee will be formed to establish clear guidelines for the temple’s future management.

Historians have expressed concern that the wedding could damage the historical integrity of the Gopal Mandir, built in 1832 by Rajmata Krishna Bai Holkar and once a significant centre for charitable activities during the Holkar era. The incident underscores the ongoing debate about balancing preservation of historical sites with public access and appropriate event management.
