Tue Jan 14 06:11:33 UTC 2025: ## Congress Slams Modi for Not Visiting Violence-Hit Manipur on Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra Anniversary

**New Delhi, January 14, 2025** – The Congress party launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, marking the first anniversary of the launch of their Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The party criticized Modi for failing to visit Manipur, which has been ravaged by ethnic violence since May 2023, despite extensive international travel.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh highlighted the stark contrast between the Prime Minister’s global travels and his absence from Manipur, stating that Modi has shown neither the inclination nor the energy to visit the distressed people of the northeastern state. He further alleged that the Prime Minister has refused to meet with Manipur’s political leaders, including members of his own party and the Chief Minister.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, a 6,600 km march through 15 states, was launched from Manipur a year ago to draw attention to issues like unemployment, price rises, and social justice. Ramesh noted the irony of launching the initiative in a state the Prime Minister has yet to visit, despite the ongoing crisis.

The violence in Manipur, between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, has claimed over 220 lives and displaced thousands. Even a recent attempt by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports to conduct a study tour to the state was reportedly postponed, further illustrating the severity of the situation.

The Congress continues to pressure the government for effective action to address the crisis and end the violence in Manipur.
