Mon Jan 13 21:09:16 UTC 2025: ## Oscar Nominations Delayed Due to California Wildfires
**Los Angeles, CA –** The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday that the 97th Academy Awards nominations will be delayed by almost a week, pushing the announcement date to January 23rd. This decision comes in response to the devastating California wildfires currently impacting the Los Angeles area.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang released a joint statement expressing their concern for those affected by the fires and highlighting the Academy’s commitment to supporting the community during this difficult time. The extended wildfires also prompted the Academy to extend the nominations voting period for its members until Friday.
In addition to the postponement, the annual nominees luncheon has been cancelled, and the Scientific and Technical Awards, originally scheduled for February 18th, will be rescheduled at a later date. The Oscars ceremony itself remains scheduled for March 2nd at the Dolby Theatre, with live television broadcast on ABC and a live stream on Hulu.
This is not the first time the Oscars have faced postponement. Previous delays have occurred due to events such as the COVID-19 pandemic (2021), the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1968), disastrous flooding in Los Angeles (1938), and the shooting of President Ronald Reagan (1981).
