Tue Jan 14 12:02:37 UTC 2025: ## Millions Brave Cold to Dive into Faith at Mahakumbh 2025

**Prayagraj, India** – Millions of devotees flocked to the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Tuesday for the first “Amrit Snan” of the Mahakumbh 2025, marking the start of the massive religious gathering. Despite bracing cold and dense fog, over one crore (10 million) pilgrims took the holy dip in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers on Makar Sankranti, according to the Uttar Pradesh state government.

The event, described as the largest gathering on earth, is expected to draw 45 crore (450 million) devotees over its duration, lasting until February 26. The first day’s participation showcased a message of “unity and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family), with attendees from across India and the globe.

Authorities implemented comprehensive security and crowd management measures. Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar confirmed the deployment of modern technologies, including AI, for crowd control, traffic management, underwater monitoring, and firefighting. He assured that the situation remained “under control.”

The Amrit Snan, a key ritual where Naga Sadhus take the first bath, was marked by rose petal showers and chants of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Har Har Mahadev.” Devotees expressed overwhelming joy and spiritual fulfillment, with many highlighting the unique experience and peaceful atmosphere. Several international attendees shared their experiences, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this significant religious event. Even Laurene Powell Jobs, wife of the late Steve Jobs, attended, despite developing allergies.

The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 will continue with several more “Shahi Snans” (royal baths) scheduled throughout the festival, including Mauni Amavasya and Maha Shivaratri. Authorities anticipate an even larger turnout in the coming days.
