**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh:** The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 commenced today with the first “Amrit Snan” (holy dip) at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. Thousands of devotees, including sadhus from thirteen akhadas of Sanatan Dharm, participated in the ritual.
Anand Akhada Acharya Mandleswar Balkanand ji Maharaj led the processions, while officials reported a large but orderly crowd. Mahamandleshwar Swami Gyan Puri of Mahanirvana Akhara praised the smooth management of the massive gathering, highlighting the efficient organization that allowed everyone to participate in the holy dip. A foreign devotee emphasized the global significance of the event, stating that the Maha Kumbh is a celebration for the world, not just India.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lauded the event on Twitter, calling it a living embodiment of India’s culture and faith. Heavy security measures, including police, PAC, mounted police, and paramilitary forces, were deployed to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage, as confirmed by SSP Kumbh Mela Rajesh Dwivedi. The successful commencement of the first Amrit Snan marks the beginning of the massive religious gathering, expected to attract millions of devotees over the coming weeks.
