**Prayagraj, January 14, 2025** – The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 commenced its first royal bath (Amrit Snan) today, on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. The Mahanirawani and Atal Akhadas were among the first to participate in the sacred ritual, believed to offer salvation and cleanse devotees of their sins. This marks the beginning of a series of six royal baths and three Amrit Snans scheduled throughout the mela, which will continue until February 26th. The next Amrit Snans will take place on January 29th (Mauni Amavasya) and February 3rd (Basant Panchami).
The event is attracting a large number of devotees from India and abroad. Thirteen Naga Sadhu Akhadas were among the first to participate in today’s ceremony. The auspicious timings for the bath included Brahma Muhurta (5:27 AM to 6:21 AM) and Maha Punyakal (9:03 AM to 10:48 AM).
