Tue Jan 14 06:39:09 UTC 2025: ## Millions Take Holy Dip as Maha Kumbh 2025 Begins
**Prayagraj, India** – Millions of devotees, including many from foreign countries, participated in the first “Amrit Snan” (sacred bath) at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Tuesday, marking the start of the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. The event, held once every twelve years, is considered the world’s largest peaceful gathering, with an anticipated attendance exceeding 400 million people – surpassing the populations of both the US and Russia.
The opening day saw a massive influx of pilgrims to the 4,000-hectare site, prompting extensive security measures, including AI cameras and underwater drones. To accommodate the massive crowd, the Uttar Pradesh government has established numerous crowd control initiatives such as “Bhula-Bhatka” (Lost and Found) camps equipped with digital tools and social media assistance, and police assistance centers. Over 250 individuals separated from their families were successfully reunited by the fair administration on the first day.
Innovative solutions to prevent separation are also being implemented; two sisters from Jharkhand have tied themselves together with a ribbon to avoid getting lost in the vast crowds.
The event, which runs until February 26th, is expected to generate significant economic activity in Uttar Pradesh, with a projected revenue of ₹2 lakh crore (approximately $24 billion USD). Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath celebrated the opening, calling it a “living form of our eternal culture and faith.” The festival is also drawing attention for its unique personalities, including a biker seer who arrived on a Harley Davidson and “Splendor Baba” who completed a 14-day journey on a three-wheeler.
The Maha Kumbh Mela will continue for 45 days, promising a spectacle of faith, culture, and community. While authorities are striving to manage the immense logistical challenges, the event’s spiritual significance remains paramount for millions of participants.
