**Pathanamthitta, Kerala, January 14, 2025** – Kerala police have arrested 44 individuals in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a Dalit girl in Pathanamthitta. The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
According to DIG S. Ajeetha Begum, overseeing the investigation, 30 FIRs have been filed, naming 59 accused. While 44 have been apprehended, two others, currently abroad, are being sought with the consideration of issuing Look Out Circulars and potentially Red Corner Notices through Interpol. Authorities are actively searching for the remaining 13 suspects.
The investigation has revealed that the abuse occurred over several years, with the victim alleging sexual abuse by 62 individuals since the age of 13. The incidents involved various locations, including a private bus stand, vehicles, a rubber plantation, and even the Pathanamthitta General Hospital. The victim, now 18, first reported the abuse after her teachers noticed behavioral changes, prompting intervention from the Child Welfare Committee.
The SIT, comprised of over 30 officers, is conducting a thorough investigation. DIG Begum stated that additional officers will join the team after the Sabarimala pilgrimage season concludes. Authorities have emphasized their commitment to a comprehensive and scientific investigation, vowing to bring all accused to justice.
