WASHINGTON, D.C. – Special Counsel David Weiss sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s assertions that his son, Hunter Biden, was subjected to selective prosecution, asserting that such claims undermine the integrity of the American justice system. In his final report released Monday, Weiss denounced the president’s accusations as “gratuitous and wrong,” emphasizing that the decisions to prosecute Hunter Biden stemmed from impartial investigations.
The 280-page report concludes a probe initiated by Attorney General Merrick Garland. Weiss stated that questioning the impartiality of the prosecutions erodes public trust in the justice system and weakens the rule of law. He underscored that the prosecutions exemplified equal application of justice, irrespective of an individual’s identity or connections.
President Biden, who pardoned his son last month for firearms and tax convictions, previously maintained that Hunter Biden was unfairly targeted due to his family name. He stated that the prosecution was an attempt to “break” his son.
Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges in September and to a gun charge in June. His attorney, Abbe Lowell, criticized Weiss’s report, claiming it failed to address alleged abuses of prosecutorial power. However, Weiss’s report directly contradicts these claims, forcefully defending the integrity of the investigations. The report marks the official conclusion of the special counsel’s investigation.
