Tue Jan 14 13:03:06 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Ceasefire Deal Imminent, Says Qatar

**Doha, Qatar –** A ceasefire in the 15-month conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza is on the verge of being reached, according to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Spokesperson Majed al-Ansari announced Tuesday that negotiations are at their “closest point ever” to a final agreement, with a draft already presented to both sides.

Al-Ansari stated that major obstacles have been overcome, and current discussions are focused on finalizing remaining details. He predicted implementation of the agreement “very shortly” after its completion, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of Qatar, the United States, and Egypt in mediating the deal.

While expressing cautious optimism, al-Ansari urged against premature celebrations until a formal announcement. The mediation efforts have focused on ending the conflict and securing the release of dozens of Israeli captives held in Gaza since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. Over 100 Israelis remain captive, with the Israeli military estimating a significant number are deceased.

The devastating conflict has resulted in over 46,000 deaths and nearly 110,000 injuries in Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Leaked Israeli media reports suggest a three-stage implementation: the initial release of 33 Israeli captives, followed by further prisoner exchanges, and finally, long-term arrangements including discussions about Gaza’s governance and reconstruction efforts. These reports also indicate Israel’s complete withdrawal from the Philadelphi Corridor at the conclusion of the first stage. The exchange involves the release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli captives.
