Tue Jan 14 05:50:35 UTC 2025: ## Dense Fog Cripples Delhi; Trains Delayed, Visibility Near Zero
**New Delhi, January 14, 2025** – A thick blanket of fog enveloped Delhi on Tuesday morning, causing widespread disruption to transportation and significantly impacting visibility. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported near-zero visibility at Palam since 4:30 AM and visibility limited to 50 meters at Safdarjung since 5:30 AM. This resulted in significant delays for train services, with 39 trains running behind schedule by up to four hours as of 6 AM.
The poor visibility, coupled with calm winds at Safdarjung and southeasterly winds at 6-8 kmph at Palam, created hazardous conditions. Delhi’s minimum temperature was recorded at a relatively mild 8.9 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees above normal. However, air quality remained poor, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reporting an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 256 at 9 AM. The IMD has forecast dense to very dense fog to continue throughout the day, with a maximum temperature expected around 19 degrees Celsius. The situation prompted images of vehicles stuck in traffic jams on the Delhi-Gurugram expressway.
